About This Tour

This tour takes you to hidden gems in Sintra that're n't on the usual day trip maps. You'll ride through Sintras hills and down to the coast in a 4x4 vehicle. The tour visits five off-the-beaten-path places that you'd only discover if you really know Sintra or have lots of time to explore. The day starts in Sintra then heads into the hills on roads avoiding the main tourist areas. As you travel you'll learn about the history of Sintras palaces, castle and royal estates. The landscape helps you understand Sintras history. While most tours head to Pena this one goes deeper into Sintras forest. The Convento dos Capuchos in Sintra is at the end of a road that most visitors don't take. This old convent was built by the Franciscans. Its rooms are lined with cork. Its surrounded by Sintras forest. It's a spot with few people. From there the tour heads to the Santuário da Peninha, where you can see Sintras Atlantic coast. In the afternoon the tour goes west through the Colares wine region. You'll visit a wine cellar in Sintra. Taste some wine. Then you'll have lunch at a village restaurant. The tour continues along the coast road through Azenhas do Mar. Ends at a viewpoint near Cabo da Roca. You can only reach this viewpoint on foot. The 4x4 vehicle gets you close.
